24 Oct ⚠️ Important Warning for Warfield Park Residents – Winter Fuel Payment Scams
As winter approaches, we’d like to remind all our residents – especially pensioners – to stay alert for scam messages about Winter Fuel Payments.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has warned that fraudsters are sending fake texts and emails claiming to be from government officials processing these payments. These messages are scams.
💡 You do not need to apply for your Winter Fuel Payment – it will be made automatically into your bank account. The Government will never ask for your bank details by text, email or phone.
If you receive one of these messages:
- ❌ Don’t reply or click on any links
- 📱 Forward it to 7726 (this reports it to your mobile provider)
- 🗑️ Then delete it immediately
Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said:
“If you get a text message about winter fuel payments, it’s a scam. Payments will be made automatically – do not engage.”
Eligible pensioners will receive a letter in October or November confirming how much they’ll get, with payments made between mid-November and December 2025.
Those on lower incomes may also be entitled to Pension Credit (worth around £4,300 a year), and residents with care needs can apply for Attendance Allowance.
If you think you’ve been scammed, contact your bank and the police immediately.
Stay safe and spread the word to friends and neighbours in Warfield Park.
