28 May Keeping Cool & Saving Water at Warfield Park & The Paddocks This Summer ☀️💧
We don’t know about you, but these hot days we’re having at the moment feel more like Spain than Berkshire! While we all enjoy a bit of sunshine around Warfield Park and The Paddocks, the warmer weather can also mean higher water use — especially when we’re watering plants, washing cars and trying to keep our homes cool.
The good news? Saving water doesn’t have to be boring. Small changes can make a big difference, and they’ll help keep both Warfield Park and The Paddocks looking beautiful all summer long.
Here are some easy and fun ways to save water during the heatwave:
🌼 Give Your Plants a Smart Drink
Water plants early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler. This helps stop water evaporating too quickly in the heat.
Bonus tip: Plants actually prefer a deep soak less often rather than a quick sprinkle every day!
🚿 Challenge Yourself to a “Power Shower”
Can you keep your shower under 4 minutes?
Put on your favourite summer song and see if you can finish before the chorus ends. Shorter showers save litres of water every single day.
🌻Garden Water-Saving Ideas
For those enjoying the garden and outdoor spaces:
- Collect rainwater in water butts for plants and gardens
- Use a watering can instead of a hose where possible
- Leave grass slightly longer during hot weather to help it stay green
- Sweep patios and paths instead of hosing them down
Your lawn may not look like Centre Court this month — and that’s perfectly okay!
🚗 Skip the Full Car Wash
A bucket and sponge can use far less water than a hosepipe. Plus, it’s a great excuse to get outside in the sunshine for 20 minutes.
The grand children also seem strangely enthusiastic about helping… for at least five minutes.
🧊 Keep Cool Without Wasting Water
Instead of running cold taps continuously:
- Fill reusable bottles and keep them in the fridge
- Freeze fruit for refreshing snacks
- Close curtains during the hottest part of the day to help keep homes cooler naturally
🐦 Don’t Forget Wildlife
Birds, bees, and hedgehogs get thirsty too during hot weather.
A shallow bowl of fresh water in the garden can really help local wildlife — just remember to top it up regularly.
💧 Thinking About a Water Meter?
Did you know water meters are available for most homes at Warfield Park and the Paddocks?
Having a water meter installed can be a really useful way to keep an eye on your water usage, especially during the warmer months when we all tend to use a little more. Many residents find it helps them better understand their consumption and even make small savings over time too.
If you’d like a quote or would like to arrange for a water meter installation, please give Jenna a call at the office on 01344 884 666 and she’ll be happy to arrange an appointment for you.
No pressure — just a helpful option if you’d like to track your usage a little more closely this summer ☀️💧
☀️ Every Drop Counts
Even tiny changes across homes at Warfield Park and The Paddocks can save thousands of litres of water over summer.
So whether you’re tending flowers, relaxing in the garden, or enjoying the sunshine around the park, let’s all do our bit to stay cool, save water, and enjoy the beautiful weather responsibly.
And remember — if the weather gets any hotter, we fully expect to see inflatable flamingos appearing outside homes across the park. 🦩
Stay cool and enjoy the sunshine!
