24 Sep Warfield Park Celebrates Success in David Bellamy’s Home Sweet Home Challenge 2026
We are delighted to announce that Warfield Park has successfully completed and passed the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous “Home Sweet Home Challenge 2026”, a fantastic achievement that recognises our ongoing commitment to supporting wildlife and enhancing natural habitats across the park.
Back in August, Ashley, a representative from the David Bellamy Pledge for Nature programme, visited Warfield Park to assess the work being undertaken throughout the site. Following the visit, we received an extremely positive report highlighting the significant efforts being made to protect and enhance biodiversity within our woodland, meadow and SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace) areas.
Recognition for Our Wildlife Initiatives
In a letter to the park, National Adviser Rufus Bellamy praised Warfield Park’s commitment to conservation and thanked everyone involved in helping wildlife thrive. Particular recognition was given to the development of our woodland and meadow habitats and the work taking place within the SANG area.
Our adviser, Ashley Jameson, was especially impressed by the variety of wildlife homes that have been created as part of the Home Sweet Home Challenge. These include:
- Installation of bird boxes and bat boxes
- Creation of hedgehog homes
- Refurbishment of bug hotels
- Development of log and brush piles for insects and other wildlife
- Establishment of beehives in partnership with a local beekeeper
One of the highlights of this year’s work has been the successful introduction of beehives on site. Working alongside an experienced beekeeper, Warfield Park has established thriving colonies that are already contributing to local pollinator populations.
A Park Designed for Nature
Warfield Park is fortunate to have an abundance of natural green spaces, including mature woodland, species-rich meadow areas, ponds, streams, hedgerows and hundreds of mature trees. Covering approximately 70 hectares, the park provides valuable habitats for a wide range of wildlife while also offering residents and visitors opportunities to enjoy nature on their doorstep.
The advisory report noted that the park has been managed sympathetically for wildlife for many years and highlighted the ongoing development of the SANG area as a major environmental asset.
Looking Ahead
While celebrating this achievement, the report also identified exciting opportunities for the future. Suggestions included enhancing wildflower meadows, improving pond management, planting additional woodland-edge species, creating more interpretation and educational materials, and encouraging greater resident involvement in conservation activities.
Many of these ideas align closely with Warfield Park’s long-term vision of creating an attractive, sustainable environment where people and nature can flourish together.
