Woodland and Wildlife at Warfield Park

Bracknell forest has a rich and varied landscape that supports a wide range of habitats, and a diverse range of plants and wildlife. At Warfield Park we are lucky enough to have a 26 acre SANG area as well as woodland, known as Maclaren West and Big wood.

Bats – Roost in trees, can be seen foraging at dusk. Several bat species thrive in this area which includes, the Noctule bat, Whiskered bat and most commonly, the Common Pipistrelle Bat

The Common Pipistrelle Bat is one of the most common bat species found in Berkshire. They are the most likely species you will see around your garden. They weigh around 5 grams (same as a 20p piece). They can eat up to 1000 tiny insects in one night!

Badgers – Are a nocturnal

All species, inhabit grassland and woodland areas. They have been a protected species since 1992.

Parakeets – The bright ringed-necked parakeet is an escapee and our only naturalised parrot; its success is usually likely due to the warmer winters. They originally are from Africa and Southern Asia.

Deer– Roe and Muntjac deer are present in the park and can frequently make an appearance.

Roe deer can reach 3-4ft long and are about the same height as a dog. Their habitat is woodlands, farmland and occasionally urban areas. They have a diet of grass and leaves

Muntjac deer were originally bought from China to Woburn Park in Bedfordshire in the early 20th century. Whilst fighting, bucks first use their antlers to push their opponents off balance before slashing at them with their tusks
